Export regions

Cumin is an aromatic seed, narrow and ridged, with a yellowish-grey to brown colour. It travels dry, and a few crushed grains release a much stronger scent than a handful left whole.

Apothecaries use it in their preparations, and Dutch cheesemakers add it to certain cheeses. The plant is grown for these small fruits, which are harvested and dried before sale. At the counter, shape and fragrance help a buyer judge the spice long after it has left the field.
