Export regions

Frankincense from Hadhramaut is a fragrant plant resin, traded in pale or amber-coloured tears. Pieces rub against one another during transport, leaving fragments and dust at the bottom of the container.

It is burned in ceremonies and to perfume rooms. Apothecaries also use it in their preparations. Trees in southern Arabia yield the gum-resin, which is gathered after it hardens and sorted for sale. A little heat reveals its appeal: the dry fragments give off fragrant smoke.
