Export regions

Liquorice is a sweet root, brown outside and yellow and fibrous within. It travels dried in pieces or bundles, resembling sticks until it is cut, chewed or steeped.

Apothecaries use it in decoctions and extracts, including preparations for chest complaints. The roots are dug up, cleaned and dried for keeping. Their sweetness makes them useful in the shop, even when the plain-looking bundles attract little attention on the quay.
