Export regions

Wasabi is a Japanese plant prized for its thickened, green, knobbly stem. Grating it produces a sharply pungent paste, very different in appearance from the whole piece.

It is used as a condiment. Cultivation in running water develops in Japan from the early seventeenth century. After harvest, the useful stem is prepared for the table; its strong aroma becomes most apparent as it is grated.
