Export regions

Zinc is shipped in grey ingots, ready for metalworkers to melt and use. Combined with copper, it produces brass for objects and coins.

Thousands of Chinese zinc ingots were carried aboard the Mauritius, wrecked in 1609 alongside pepper and porcelain. The metal had already been extracted and cast before loading. At its destination, these plain grey pieces could become the bright yellow alloy used in a very different range of finished wares.
